From an architectural viewpoint, the building consists of a rectangular floor plan with a single nave and choir that receive light from three round openings. The lintelled door has lost the metal cornicework which once protected it and is reached by a staircase leading up to it. It is built in plastered and whitewashed stone masonry, and the gable end of the fa\u00e7ade is topped with a belfry containing a bell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The original building was restored in 1906 under instruction from the master builder Jos\u00e9 Bilbao Lopategui. The work was executed by the local contractor Mart\u00edn Gonz\u00e1lez de Durana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The building was originally an old chapel. These were religious medieval buildings inside towns and outside the town walls, frequently at the entrance to villages or at crossroads to provide travellers with a place to pray during their journeys. They were of simple construction, consisting of a pedestal with a cross or image placed over it.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Over time, they were converted into roofed chapels, which are commonly found in the region, such as the ones in Fruiz, Arrieta or Fika. In some cases, these buildings served as places where wakes were held, as the popular custom required the public to pay their respects in the presence of the deceased before their burial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
